Ijebu man, far away from home

Collecting coins in a bowl

He sits all day

Arms seeking alms, he begs in sun and in rain
Says, boy did you know

About Otuba of old

I lived and drank in a throne

I called it home
Till iyawo came from the farm

With ogun, the one you call charm

I never felt again

The thinking of my brain
No more, no more

Did my soul shine like my gold

Footsteps echoed

As my child watched me go
So now I live in rags

And life, at me laughs

It wouldn’t tell you my past
